Why this blog?

For the past nine years, consulting with nonprofit organizations has been a great adventure and a constant learning experience. Laura Pierce Consulting is dedicated to helping nonprofits thrive. As the years have passed, my ideas about the best strategies to achieve this mission have evolved, and I have explored new pathways and applied new concepts.

Right now, blogging is a fun new frontier to explore. Blogs are not yet a very common tool in the nonprofit world. As a sector, we are not known as early adopters. Yet we have challenging knowledge management and knowledge sharing issues. Blogs, wikis and other online tools have great potential to help us help each other. I have concluded that a good way to explore that potential is by diving in and learning experientially.

My best hopes:
• Quality dialogue regarding some of the sector’s most complex challenges
• A forum for testing new ideas and learning from others
• Making some of what I have learned and discovered through nine years of consulting more broadly accessible
• A fun experiment and learning opportunity

A few years ago, I was amongst the first local consultants to develop a website for my business. I took a class and designed it myself. In the process, I clarified the mission of Laura Pierce Consulting and learned valuable new skills. Now, I hope that by being among the first local nonprofit-focused bloggers, I can learn how to use a powerful new tool for good!
